Now it's easier said to just leave them alone, but when it comes from those we love how do you move forward. There's really no method to the maddness because, you and only you can determine your limit for the BS!! There are different techniques you could use in the event you still decide to keep the toxicity in your environment.
1. Stop making yourself available all the time. This will help with your sanity, I'm not saying don't be a shoulder to lean on or an ear to listen. Just don't allow it to turn your emotional state negative.
2. Change the subject. Now with this one you have to be a little tricky as to not seem insensitive. Listen, acknowledge and speak your opinion on it, then transition into a more lighter subject.
3. Ask the person what keeps them in their negative space. Offer some suggestions on how they can alleviate any stress or concerns that apparently they don't know how to deal with.
4. Don't try to change someone's situation for them. People are going to do what they want anyway so, offer your views and take it with a grain of salt if it is not received or exhibited.
5. Stop being an enabler. Constantly pacifying someone and letting them wallow in their sorrow at the expense of your emotional state is insane!
